Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains

December 4.

We anticipated a short drive from just South of Gettysburg to Wytheville VA....What better time to take a scenic detour through the Blue Ridge Mountains' spectacular Skyline Drive. Our first (hopefully of several) National Parks.

No bear sightings (my life quest...) but we did spot a couple of deer and...many squirrels!
Happily, although many of the facilities in the park are closed at this time of year, the Visitor Center was open and provided us with some historical background to the park.  The road we drove was largely built as one of the New Deal's depression era work projects initiated by FDR.

The views speak for themselves...
