Greensboro NC

Greensboro NC highlights.  Great 2-day visit with our friends Harrison and Katy Evatt whom we met in Antigua in1991 while cruising in our sailboat.  (Yes Dave was there too but he is camera shy....)

Thanks to them we got to try the BEST NC BBQ at Stameys!!!

Touring the Civil Rights museum made for another emotional day.  The museum honours the four brave young men who, in February 1960, peacefully sat at the 'whites only' Woolworth's lunch counter asking to be served.  This act marked the beginning of the sit-in movement.  The excellent museum has a "Hall of shame"  where violence and racism are vividly illustrated.  As white people, we have so much blood on our hands...http://www.sitinmovement.org/

This monument of the Four young men has been erected in front of the main hall at A T and T State University, known as an "HCBU" or historically black college and university. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historically_black_colleges_and_universities

A walk through the beautiful Guilford courthouse National
Military Park where we didn't see a bear  :)
Greensboro now has my all-time favourite community Christmas light display!  Whole neighbourhoods are strung with multi coloured globe lights creating a magical display!  So very pretty! http://m.greensboro.com/news/local_news/today-show-to-spotlight-sunset-hills-lighted-tree-balls/article_83d586f3-e669-50aa-8ce0-30263687234d.html?mode=jqm Thanks again Katy and Harrison!!!  XO

  1. We really enjoyed your visit and saw a bear in the park right after you left... Only kidding about the bear! Have a great land cruise and come back anytime.
